…Still, I don’t know how to take my name off the picture of Noame?
Anyway that’s how the drawing started…

Giraffe on puzzle

puzzle

I tried out printing a drawing on a wooden puzzle. There is still some improvements to make but I already like the object (look better for real).

I put aside a few other drawings in order to make some more attempts… for the time being Noame is enjoying playing with the giraffes…

Noame's drawing.

Children's drawing

Noame (3 and a half) colored and cut a few shapes that she glued on bubbly plastic wrapping paper. Then, we played together with the photoshop brushes and sent the drawing to Dad at the Drupal congress in Hungary!!!

By the way, I do not manage to wipe my name off the drawing… (a question for Zohar)… It is not fair with Noame,Is it?

I enjoy to work with this magnificent young artist although she has a quite limited and scattered attention span!!! With her, you’d better drawing really fast, if not, you might find yourself baking a pretending birthday cake or chatting with noddy or Mowgli or before it’s finished…

And anyway, when one is three years old it is definitively much more fun to cut, draw on paper and color both body and surrounding with pencils rather than clicking with a computer mouse… Next time we will use only traditional technique! It suit kids better…

Catalog 2008 - Eretz Israel Museum - Tel Aviv.

Catalog 2008 - Eretz Israel Museum

Here is the final cover of the catalog.

Shira Sofer, graphic designer, made the inside of the catalog, using details of this cover as well as other pictures and drawings. Those who are around and interested in visiting the museum can to download the entire catalog here.

Every year a different illustrator was ask to draw the cover of the museum catalog keeping in mind the theme of “History and Present”.

The museum’s team requested that I’d feel free to draw what I wanted as long as the object from the museum were appearing and as long as I’d make something différent from the past years. They told me they liked the collages”nine month” representing eight random states of mind of a pregnant woman. I was myself very keen on making collages and create paper textures.I started by making this background texture.

I enjoyed very much making this drawing. I drew, paint, cut scanned, then re-coat with photophop brushes. I now feel like making plenty of collages!!!

For the moment in the materialistic, realistic life, we are surrounding by carton boxes but as soon as we have reached the new house in Benyamina - “Baït Yamin” as Noame says in a cute way - the house of Yamina, why not? - Let’s go to Yamina’s house - Anyway, over there, I will be able to start to cut and glue with fun.

In the museum, there is currently, a nice exhibition with all sort of paper made masks, people, clothes, pages of books flying away in tatters… and of course, all kind of textured papers. Worth seeing it!

Sculpture of objects (given up idea for the catalog)

object museum
object museum
objects museum

My first idea for the catalog was to pill up objects in order to make a scuplture out of them and then to have characters flying around observing, discussing this sculpture. The object had to surpass the people…

We gave up the idaea quite quickly. On one hand it did not quite match the picture Shira had in mind, on the other hand I did not quite like the way the objects look like. My idea was to work from a photography (draw on it)but at the end of the day it still look too much like a picture rather than a drawing and also the objects did not look nice and connected all together. I beleive that with an other traitment of the objects it could have been a good final result but I prefered to explore other directions…

Research for characters for the catalog cover of the israeli museum (educational section)

…one week turned out to be two weeks and a little bit more.

The cover for the catalog is now finished!

I will wait for it to be published before posting it on this site…

Meanwhile, here are the characters appearing on this cover. They are talking or thinking about the exhibitions they just saw - objects from the museum are flying around them.

It was an interesting experience to work with a graphic designer, Shira Sofer. She gave me advices and suggestions that I tried to follow the best I could. Sometime, I went to unsuitable directions and therefore changed course. This feedback really helped me to progress when drawing.

At the same time, I experimented how tricky it is to serve the purpose of the persons who ordered the drawings while keeping the intended spirit and atmosphere of this drawing.

At the end of the day, I am happy because it seems that everybody is pleased and have reached their own target.

We can see the direction of Shira’s suggestions when looking at the sketches: from naive and timeless characters we intended to reach a contemporary look. As far as I am concern, I did not want to add “moderns gimmicks” to the drawing so I played with their clothes in order to fit the expected result.
